In each institution\u2019s policies and procedures, the following information must be covered: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"h5p-iframe-wrapper\"><iframe id=\"h5p-iframe-22\" class=\"h5p-iframe\" data-content-id=\"22\" style=\"height:1px\" src=\"about:blank\" frameBorder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" title=\"Module 5: Laser Safety in the Operating Room\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5>Common Lasers Seen in the Perioperative Environment<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>   Common <a id=\"post-473-_Int_R584o6Ix\"><\/a>lasers in the operating room include: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>     CO2   <\/li><li>     Erbium: YAG   <\/li><li>     Holmium: YAG   <\/li><li>     Nd: YAG   <\/li><li>     KTP   <\/li><li>     Argon   <\/li><li>     Tunable Dye Laser   <\/li><li>     Diode   <\/li><li>     Excimer   <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  You can learn more about each type of laser in your textbook<a id=\"post-473-_Int_iKmCgEkl\"><\/a>. <a id=\"post-473-_Int_Rf5Vx1z9\"><\/a>It is important to note that there are <a id=\"post-473-_Int_XTINoKWB\"><\/a>many types of lasers which have different functionalities and effects. Each laser is unique in how it is set up, tested, and used. There are different safety precautions required for staff and patients. Lasers are only to be used by perioperative personnel who have received training on that specific laser.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5>\ud83e\udde0 Graded Activity<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p> In Blackboard, complete the <strong>Graded Activity: Laser Safety Officer.  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h5>\ud83d\udcc1Documentation Highlight<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>\n  The circulating nurse must ensure that the following information is documented related to laser devices used in a procedure:\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>\n    The type of unit along with its serial number\n  <\/li><li>\n    The safety precautions taken (i.e., eye protection, signage)\n  <\/li><li>\n    The laser operator\n  <\/li><li>\n    Any laser usage\/other specific documentation (i.e., watts, total pulses, power setting.
